Gary and I had to deposit tithing checks this morning at the bank the church uses in Israel. We had good driving directions, but we still managed to get a little lost. We finally made it to the right spot, and Gary hiked up Hillel Street to the bank. After we picked him up, we went to the open market at Mahane Yehuda. There are vendors of fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, dried fruit, meat, fish, bread, desserts, miscellaneous house items, eating places, etc.
Fruit vendor with Gary, Alexis, and Linda
We found a baker who was making fresh falafels. In the background you can see some of the bakers and machines rolling the dough into a ball, flattening it, and feeding it into the conveyor belt through the oven. Alexis bought one fresh off the belt. It's hot. Do you think Gary wants a piece?
The Kippa Man sells only Kippas, worn by Jews on their head as a reminder that God is above them.
This part of the market has a lot of sidewalk cafes where you can buy falafels, schwarma, etc.
Linda and Alexis bought delicious pastries. Do you think Alexis is anxious to taste one? Notice the Israeli soldiers behind Alexis and Linda.
We stopped for a falafel before driving back to the Jerusalem Center. We were talking in front of this store, when the man behind Linda heard our English and gave us a sales pitch to eat there. He said this store was featured by the media recently. He is from Philadelphia and has been in Israel for a year. He moved to Israel to join the army.
Shopping is hard work!
