Tuesday 4 March 2014 Everyday scenes

Common things we do and see. We often shop for groceries at Wadi Joz, a Palestinian store near the Jerusalem Center. When they learned Linda's name, they sang a song about Linda in Arabic

We walk down the hill in A-Tur from the Jerusalem Center to the bottom of the Kidron Valley. The hill is much steeper than it appears in the picture.

Looking toward the Garden of Gethsame and the Orson Hyde Park from the Kidron Valley.  This road is a shortcut to the Garden, but we are not allowed to take it unless we are with a large group. We have to walk up the hill to the corner of the Old City, then down the hill to the Garden.

View of the Jerusalem Center from the corner of the Old City.

Damascus Gate.  The road from Damascus Gate runs to Damascus, Syria, thus the name.

Women's shops in the Old City have stylish Muslim dresses. The woman did not want her face in the picture.

Leaving the Old City past Herod's Gate near the intersection at the top of the hill above the Kidron Valley.

Houses built into the side of the hill on our way down to the Kidron Valley.

Muslim boys in the Kidron Valley on our way back up the hill to the Jerusalem Center.

The Jerusalem Center from A-Tur in the Kidron Valley.  Some students refer to the hill as heart attack hill, because it is steep and takes a lot of energy to walk to and from the Old City.

Students, Linda, and a Palestinian man at the lower gate of the Jerusalem Center The Palestinian lives in the neighborhood and is a friend to students from past semesters who told these students to look him up.
