Monday 16 February 2015 Walk into the Old City, treats with Namiti, Shaban

We walked into the Old City to meet Namati Ansari.  We passed the Church of Mary Magdalene which is above the Garden of Gethsemane on the Mount of Olives.

This is the Orson Hyde Park which is also on the Mount of Olives.

Stray cats are everywhere in the Old City,

as is garbage.  Everything is cleaned up in the evenings but the garbage collects quickly the next day.

Pastry shops are attractively arranged.

The front door of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher is locked each night.

A ladder at the side of the front door is positioned to open the lock each morning.

We met Namati Ansari at the Post Office on Salah e-din Street and she took us to a pastry shop in the Old City that specializes in one kind of pastry.  The dough is rolled very thin.
The baker threw the dough in the air to make it even thinner.

He then put cheese or nuts for filling.

They are put on a pan and baked to a golden brown

and served with a sugar syrup.

Arches in the city are plentiful.

We stopped at Shaban's for last minute shopping.
