Sunday Oct. 5, we drove down to a scout camp near Bet Shemesh ( on the way to Tel Aviv). BYU donated some money to the camp when it looked like they were going to have to cancel it due to lack of funds. It was at a monastery and a beautiful setting.
The tents were orderly and clean. It may have partly been that they knew we were coming. The arranged the rocks in creative designs.
This is the chapel at the monastery, called St. Stephen's.
The Boy Scouts had a marching band with bagpipes. They performed for us and were actually very good. Tawfic's son George plays the drums.
Here they are in formation.
The Girl Scouts performed a dance routine.
The kitchen was clean with a lot of healthy food.
Tawfic Alawi, Linda, David Whitchurch and Nassif Asfour, all had blue checked shirts on.
The scouts sang a scout song for us and then I sang "A too-a-taw" with them.
Eran Hayet accepted a plaque of recognition for the help BYU gave.
They also gave us a shirt, hat, and scarf with their scout logo.
They lined up to say good bye as we left the monastery.
The scouts saying goodbye as we leave.
Sunday afternoon we took a group of students from the center to St. Vincent's home for handicapped children in Ein Karem. They were having a music program so our students danced with the children in the wheelchairs. There were a lot of smiles from the patients as well as our students.
You guys are just having way too much fun. When do you work? Just kidding! I love seeing all these places and great pictures.
