Thursday 8 January 2015 Student arrival for Winter Semester

The BYU students were supposed to arrive the evening of January 7.  Because of an anticipated snowstorm, Highways #1 and #433 from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem were closed.  They took the students to a hotel in Ashdod which is south of Tel Aviv.  They drove to Jerusalem Thursday morning after the roads reopened. They leave their luggage in the hall while they have orientation in the auditorium.

The drapes are closed when they enter so they get the "Ahh" effect when the drapes are opened.

The students anxiously waited...

while Mary Beth Jones played a hymn arrangement of "Praise to the Lord."

David Whitchurch addressed them,

and they opened the drapes.  It's actually quite impressive to see the Old City for the first time.

The day was cold so there was condensation on the windows but it was still an "Ahh" moment.

Eran Hayet, the direct of the center wore a tie ( which is uncommon) to address the students,

Kim Chadwick dressed up to talk about the library,

and Linda explained what the humanitarian committee does.  The next two days were orientation for the students.

  1. I heard a great comment from a ward member here, a convert to the Church. She said is was the first thing someone taught her after she was baptized. "Being flexible is a sign of strength and maturity." You really need to be flexible at all times at the JC!
