13 May 2014 Galilee - Amutah and Kamah

On Tues., May 13, we went up to Galilee.  This is a picture of the branch house in Tiberias where Dawn and Jay Fox live.  They came with us to introduce us to two BYU Outreach organizations.

This is a view from the house/church's chapel.  That view and the view from the JC have to be. the prettiest views from chapels in the church.

Sea of Galilee locally called  Lake Kennereth.

We met with Amutah, a kibbutz that helps handicapped adults.  They teach them skills such as pottery making, weaving, baking, etc.  It was a bright and cheery facility where volunteers were teaching a skill to the students.

They also have a dairy which is organic.

We then drove to Tamara, Israel, where we went to Kamah, a school for struggling students.  The woman that started the school, Ramzieh, is a retired teacher, school administrator, Muslim
and member of the church. She started the school with her own money and services the students in after-school remedial programs.  They are looking for a school with more space.

The classrooms were small.

Linda, Dawn, Ramzieh, and Ramzieh's partner at the school.

Ramzieh's assistant had a lovely Palestinian dinner for us in her apartment, upstairs from the school.

Falaffel, pita bread, olives, and cucumber and tomato salad are staples.

The children came home from school and were good sports to have their pictures taken.
