Wednesday 30 April 2014 Silwan and Jerusalem Center

On Wed. May 1, 2014, the principal at Silwan Elementary invited us to the school for a review from some kind of board.  It was to demonstrate how the school was recycling, using good health and hygiene habits, and integrating it into the curriculum with English.  I think we were props showing that the school has volunteers that come and work with their English program.  When the board of Jewish people came to the classes to evaluate, the principal introduced us and had us tell what a good school Silwan was to work with and what we are doing here.  I was in a 4th grade class that was learning about good eating habits and Blaine was assigned a 1st grade class where they were learning dental hygiene.  The school won the award and all the teachers were very happy and cheering.  The class below are the 1st graders learning dental hygiene.  They are in their new school and very happy to be there.  It is a huge improvement from the original school.

These are some of the teachers at the school.  The one teacher reminded us alot of Heather Thomas in her appearance.
Inas Ansari is on the far right.  The teacher in the middle lives in an apartment on the Dome of the Rock property.

That evening the spring/summer semester students arrived.  When they first come, they go to the auditorium with the drapes closed and prelude  music playing on the organ.  The drapes are then opened as Jan Clayton plays "All Creatures of our God and King."  It's a little drama but actually is very nice,  their first real view of the Old City from the Jerusalem Center.
