We're into the second week of Ramadan. It's a Muslim fast that lasts for 1 month. The people are not supposed to eat or drink from sun up, around 5:00 a.m., to sun down, about 8:00 p.m. After the call to prayer at about 7:40 p.m., a cannon is shot off from the top of the Hill of Calvary. Calvary is where Christ may have been crucified. The top of the hill is a Palestinian cemetery. This is a picture of the sky right after the cannon was shot. Notice the billows of smoke. Many of the employees who work here are Muslim and observing Ramadan. Blaine is trying it with them but he drinks water. We are each celebrating it in our own way. I'm trying the pastries of Ramadan and Blaine is fasting.
