Monday, June 30, 2014, Blaine and I met with Mae Barkawi and Michal Maor. Michal is the director of Kol Ha Isha, a Jewish women's organization. Mae is with a Palestinian Muslim group of women that has a sewing workshop. Mae had approached us through her friend Inas Ansari, our friend from Silwan Elementary. Mae's organization has a workshop in the Old City which I have posted a blog about approximately 10 days ago. They have sewing machines but no fabric and want the JC to help purchase it. I talked to Michal about this organization and asked if she could help them purchase material. Michal said she would like to meet with her and see if there was any interest in working together and combining their efforts. This is the meeting where we sat down together and discussed this possibility. I got the feeling Mae would only be interested in purchasing fabric together, but she said she would think about it. Who knows, maybe if the Palestinians and Jews could sew together, there could be world peace.
These are the sewing machines that BYU bought Kol Ha Isha.
